Hands-on STEM Robotics
what is robot lab 513
Robot Lab 513 is a STEM laboratory where students (ages 9-14) get hands-on experience learning about robots. Classes cover everything from basic robot building to solving advanced challenges. Students will start with Scratch coding and work their way up to complex custom functions. They’ll also explore how different sensors—like distance, color, touch, and gyroscopic sensors—help robots understand the world around them. Whether you're just starting out or looking to learn more, Robot Lab 513 is a fun and exciting place to explore robotics.

WHY ROBOT LAB 513
I’ve seen firsthand the excitement and curiosity kids have when working with this robotics platform. It’s a fun and engaging way to bring together engineering, math, and coding—all in one STEM experience. That’s why I created Robot Lab 513: to give students more time to explore, create, and learn in a relaxed and supportive setting. With small teams and plenty of hands-on time, students can dive deeper into the parts of robotics that interest them most, while building confidence and problem-solving skills along the way.

Who is Robot Lab 513
My name is Brodie Mitchell. I started coaching FIRST® LEGO® League when my daughter joined a team in elementary school, and I’ve been a fan of the program ever since. What began as a way to support her interest quickly grew into a passion for helping students discover the fun and challenge of robotics. Alongside coaching, I’ve been actively working to grow the robotics program in our school district, because I believe in the impact it can have. This platform strikes a great balance - it’s fun, creative, and full of opportunities for deep learning. With each task completed, students not only build their STEM skills but also gain confidence in themselves. What I love most is how robotics invites creative thinking while solving real problems. My goal is to create a fun, low-pressure environment where students can feel confident experimenting, failing, and trying again.
